PASSWORDLESS / BIOMETRIC SINGLE-SIGN-ON (SSO) AUTHENTICATION
Overview
Passwordless/Biometric Single-Sign-On (SSO) Authentication is a convenient method that enables you to log in with your biometric data, such as your fingerprint or face scan, instead of a password. This offers a faster and more secure way to access university services, as it eliminates the risk of password-related breaches and the inconvenience of remembering and managing multiple passwords.
Starting from July 2024, all HKBU staff will have the option to activate this new feature for their SSOid and benefit from a simplified and seamless login experience.
Why Passwordless/Biometric SSO Authentication?
Enhanced Security
Passwordless/Biometric SSO Authentication eliminates passwords, which are often vulnerable to attacks, and provides a more secure defense against unauthorized access.
Convenience
Users no longer need to remember or manage multiple passwords. With this system, logging in is quick and hassle-free.
Seamless Experience
Users can access various university digital resources smoothly and without interruption.
Steps to enable Passwordless/Biometric Single-Sign-On (SSO) Authentication for your SSOid:
- Pre-requisite: Complete the Duo MFA registration. Please refer to MFA pages for instructions.
- Activate Passwordless/Biometric SSO Authentication: Visit the Passwordless/Biometric SSO activation page to activate this feature for your SSOid.
- Register your device: After receiving the email confirmation, register your device via “DUO Self-Service Portal”. Please refer to the user guides below for detailed instructions base on your devices’ platform.

You can Login with Passwordless/Biometric SSO Authentication by using Duo Push verification code. Please refer to the user guide [Passwordless / Biometric SSO Authentication’s process for Different Devices].
You can select "Other Option" and opt to log in with your password instead. Please refer to the user guide [Password with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)]
You must register EACH of your devices through DUO Self-Service Portal. Please refer to the user guides for the setup based on your devices’ OS.
